Many times students talk about the Summer Beach Project with their parents, but the parents have no idea what it is and why their child wants to go. We wanted to add this section of the web site for parents, so they can understand what the Summer Beach Project is and why their child should go. Here are some frequently asked questions from parents about the SBP:
What is unique about the Summer Beach Project?
1. Your child will have the opportunity to move to another city for the summer and work a full-time job.
2. Your child will be challenged to grow in all areas of life and character. They will be with 80-100 other college students who are
seeking to live a Christ-centered life.
3. Your child will build Biblical convictions that will affect their relationship with God and others for the rest of their lives. They
will be trained in Bible study and relational evangelism.
4. Your child will meet and work with people from all over the world, which will be an invaluable experience.
5. SBP is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills that can be used in any line of work in the future.
Will I be able to visit my child?
Yes, parents are always welcome to visit the Summer Beach Project assuming that it does not interfere with the goals of the project. We also have a special weekend in June (19th-21st) where we invite families to come down and we have different programs catered to you, so that you can get a picture of SBP. For this weekend, students are not required to work and we also allow much free time, so that you can spend the maximum amount of time with your child.
Will my child be safe in Myrtle Beach?
The Campus Outreach staff take the safety of your son or daughter seriously. We have several policies designed to ensure the safety of your child. We also have a curfew every night to ensure that students are not out too late. This curfew is 11 o'clock during the week and 12 o'clock on the weekends.
How will my child get down to the Summer Beach Project?
We will all meet on the morning of May 27th in Minneapolis and travel in one big caravan. It is helpful if your child can bring his or her car to the project. They will be compensated for transportation costs to and from the project. Your child may also fly to SBP if he or she does not live around the Minneapolis area, and we can arrange for someone to pick him or her up from the airport.
